The Kyoto University Alumni Association hosted a reception 27 February 2024 at a restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event was attended by 53 individuals, including the University’s faculty and staff as well as former students. Among the attending alumni were members of the Kyoto University Vietnamese Alumni (mainly former international students residing in Vietnam) and the Hanoi Yoshida-kai (mainly Japanese alumni). Also attending were the chairpersons of associations in other ASEAN countries visiting Hanoi for the 19th Southeast Asia Network Forum, which was scheduled for the following day.
The reception opened with greetings from the following: Dr Kyoko Inagaki, the University’s executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and external affairs; Professor Ta Thanh Van, chairperson of the Kyoto University Vietnamese Alumni; and Mr Masahiko Kinugawa, chairperson of the Hanoi Yoshida-kai (Faculty of Law 1992). After Professor Eiji Nawata, director of the University’s ASEAN Center, delivered a toast, representatives of the following non-Vietnamese alumni associations were introduced: the Kyoto University Alumni Association in the Philippines, the Kyoto University Alumni Network in Laos, Kyoto University Alumni in Cambodia, and the Kyoto Union Club (KUC) in Thailand.
The reception proceeded amicably and included a report by faculty and staff on the activities of overseas alumni associations and the screening of the University’s new introduction video. The occasion also served as an opportunity to deepen friendship among the attending Vietnamese and Japanese alumni.
The event concluded with remarks from Dr Jose V Camacho, Jr, chairperson of the Kyoto University Alumni Association in the Philippines (doctoral program, Graduate School of Economics 2007).
