For all alumni

The Kyodai Tozankai is an alumni association that started out with a membership of graduates of Kyoto University (former Imperial University, university under the new system, and graduate schools) who reside and work in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Membership has no requirements regarding major, specialty, personal history, occupation, age, sex, or hobbies. Moreover, since we live in a rapidly changing modern society, our actual members live in Kansai and other parts of Japan.

The Association not only promotes mutual friendship through New Year’s parties and Homecoming Day events but also holds regular meetings and study sessions aimed at self-development several times a year, in accordance with the concept of noblesse oblige. Themes have included “Agriculture in Japan,” “Global Environment and Energy,” “Population Issues, a Declining Birthrate, and an Aging Population,” and “Earthquakes and Disaster Prevention Issues” in the natural sciences as well as “The Situation in East Asia,” “Measures to Overcome Deflation,” and “Japan and Africa” in the humanities and social sciences. The Kyoto University Tozankai has arranged about 20 study sessions and panel discussions so far. We also publish a bimonthly online version of our newsletter (currently suspended). We have about 200 members at the moment, all enjoying lively discussions in connection with meaningful talks by experts in various fields across grades, faculties, and majors at the Clock Tower Centennial Hall and the Kyoto University Tokyo Office in Marunouchi.

To all of you who miss the days of learning at the foot of Mt. Higashiyama, we say, “A youth easily grows old yet does not so easily become learned.” We urge you to come along to one of our regular meetings or study sessions to learn together once again. If you are interested, please feel free to get in touch with the secretariat.

Notice about the [Kyodai Tozankai Not Accepting New Members]
At present, the Kyodai Tozankai does not accept applications for new membership owing to a combination of circumstances, including the poor health of the secretary general and the replacement of the secretariat staff. When we resume this, we will announce it on the website of the Kyoto University Alumni (Kyoto University Alumni Secretariat) for Homecoming Day, which is held every November.
