Kyoto University Sendai Alumni “Sendai Kurenaikai”
The Kyoto University Sendai Alumni “Sendai Kurenaikai” was established in 2014 as the 100th alumni association of Kyoto University and the only one in the Tohoku region, with then-President Matsumoto in attendance. Previously, our seniors had been running the Kurenaikai, but it had been on hiatus for a while; the 2014 establishment was a long-time revival.
To deepen our friendships, we hold a general meeting in June and a year-end party in December, with participants coming from all over Tohoku, and each time it becomes a fun and friendly event. Another attraction is in the form of interesting lectures that are not normally given by lecturers coming from the university headquarters. They say that Kyoto University alumni do not “get together,” which makes it all the more special when we come together to raise our cups and hold the microphone, each person full of individuality and occasion a stir—frequently caused by the highly diverse stories. It is a time when members feel grateful for other alumni so far away from Kyoto with whom one can share one’s feelings, regardless of age differences. At the end of the meetings, the members sing the dormitory song of the former Third High School “Kurenai Moyuru,” from which the association takes its name.
