The College of Medical Technology, Kyoto University was established in 1975 (Showa 50), and the Shiryokukai was established as its alumni association on October 21, 1978 (Showa 53). Taking the number 75 from 1975, the year when the junior college was established, the Association was named the “Shiryokukai” (“purple-green association”) in accordance with the international color codes for purple (7) and green (5). The name of the alumni association was adopted unanimously at the suggestion of Professor Shinobu Tomita, the College’s third overseer (dean), and it also reflected Professor Tomita’s profound idea that purple represents the ancient capital and green represents the energy of youth.
The college logo, which was adopted in July 1981, was designed by Professor Kozo Sakaguchi, who was in charge of “biology” at the time, and is based on the image of a tulip tree colored in black and white. It has remained as the symbol of the Shiryokukai to this day.
At present, the Association consists of graduates, faculty members, and other relevant people from the School of Human Health Sciences at the Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine as well as its predecessors, the School of Health Sciences and the College of Medical Technology.
