Kyoto University Shanghai Alumni “Kyosen-kai”

The Kyosenkai was established on September 20, 2002, at the initiative of Consulate General Sugimoto. It is an alumni association of Kyoto University graduates and international students in Shanghai, China. The name Kyosenkai (京仙会) is a slight twist on “Kyosenkai” (京千会), which has the meaning “the thousand-year capital Kyoto,” replacing the character for “千 (thousand)” with that for “仙 (wisdom)” that is emblematic of Kyoto University. There are also alternative theories about the name’s origin, such as the wordplay “Itsu sun nen?” (When will you do it?) “Kyo sen kai!” (Do it today!) and “Xianxia Road” (仙霞路; a bar district in Shanghai).

In addition to regular social gatherings, we also actively play golf. We not only play against other schools in events such as in the Shanghai National Collegiate Golf Tournament, the Kansai area, and the Imperial University Championship, but also arrange internal training sessions. In 2019, tour team finished fourth out of about 44 schools in the National Collegiate Golf Tournament.
